The City of Eureka is preparing for the potential shutdown of PG&E power to the City of Eureka. County OES was notified on Tuesday morning that PG&E may activate Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) in Humboldt County due to extreme fire danger weather along the two main transmission lines into Humboldt County on Hwy 36 and Hwy 299. City of Eureka Public Safety and Public Works crews are ready to respond to the effects of the power outage.
The City of Eureka is ready to respond to the effects of the power outage; however, the decision to turn off the power and the speed at which it is restored is managed solely by PG&E. The utility is working on a solution to generate power locally at its King Salmon power plant that would help offset the effects of any shutoff.
The City of Eureka's EOC is activated and working with County OES and monitoring the situation with assistance from our PG&E liasion.
WARNING! Eureka's version of “Carmageddon” is coming to Myrtle Avenue on Monday Oct. 7th - Please plan on using an alternate route beginning on Monday. The planned detour for Myrtle Avenue at Cooper Gulch area will be in full effect on Monday. Due to the size and depth of the new culvert, the construction operation will require the full width of Myrtle Avenue to be excavated. A temporary bypass road around the construction will be in place, but this bypass is NOT paved and traffic will be slow moving. Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes, especially during commute times. The detour is expected to be in place 4 to 6 weeks. Eureka City Hall will be closed December 25 - December 1, 2018. This week is a slow time of year for business conducted at City Hall. Employees will be working during this time or taking planned vacation time. Utility payments will accepted on-line or thru the drop box located on the 6th Street side of City Hall. All other City offices will remain open including the Adorni Center, EPD and Public Works. Individuals planning to do work during this closure should obtain permits prior to the closure. Due to a break in the water main, all water customers located on Jacobs Avenue will be without water until approximately 6 p.m. In addition, because of the location of the repair, the northbound right lane of Highway 101 will be closed from V Street to north of the Eureka Slough Bridge until approximately 6 p.m., February 23, 2017. The City of Eureka apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause. Please exercise caution when driving in this area and consider alternate routes if possible.
